Cenotes

Tulum is located in the heart of the Yucatan Peninsula, which is famous for its cenotes. Some popular cenotes near Tulum include Gran Cenote, Dos Ojos, Cenote Azul, and Yax Mul. Gran Cenote is a favorite among visitors, with its clear blue waters, underwater caves, and limestone formations. Dos Ojos is another popular cenote that offers excellent snorkeling and diving opportunities. Cenote Azul is known for its deep blue waters,

Exploring the cenotes near Tulum is a unique and unforgettable experience, and it’s an excellent way to cool off from the hot Yucatan sun while surrounded by natural beauty.

Grand Cenote is a natural wonder that should not be missed during your trip to Tulum. Located just 5 kilometers west of Tulum on the road to Coba, Grand Cenote is a perfect place to cool off from the heat of the Yucatan Peninsula. The cenote opens at 8:30 am, and we recommend going early to avoid the crowds. The entrance fee is $240 pesos, and you can rent masks and life vests if you forget to bring your own.

Once you arrive, you will be amazed by the crystal clear water and stunning rock formations. Snorkeling is a popular activity here, and you can see a variety of fish, turtles, and other aquatic life. If you are feeling more adventurous, you can also scuba dive in Grand Cenote.

The natural light that filters through the water creates a magical and peaceful atmosphere that is perfect for relaxation and meditation. The cenote is also surrounded by lush vegetation, making it a perfect spot to take a break from the sun and enjoy the shade.

Casa Cenote, also known as Cenote Manati, is a stunning open cenote located just 10 kilometers north of Tulum on your way to Playa del Carmen. With its crystal-clear waters and picturesque views, it’s no surprise that this is one of the most beautiful cenotes in the area.

The cenote is 300 meters in length, 5 meters deep, and 5 meters wide, with a slight current that makes it perfect for swimming. If you plan on diving, it’s also a great spot for your first scuba diving lesson. However, don’t be surprised if you come across Panchito during your visit.

Who is Panchito? Well, he’s the local resident crocodile who’s been living in the cenote for quite some time now. But don’t worry, he’s usually quite docile and keeps to himself. Just be sure to keep your distance and respect his home.

Cenote Casa Tortuga and Cenote Cristal with Laguna Ka’an Lum are two must-visit cenotes in Tulum. Cenote Casa Tortuga is a complex of three cenotes, two caves, and an open one that will leave you in awe. The snorkeling gear is included in the $450 pesos entrance fee per person. Located 11 km on the way to Playa del Carmen, this cenote is easily accessible by bike or colectivo.

Cenote Cristal and Laguna Ka’an Lum are also worth visiting. Cenote Cristal is an open cenote located 4 km on the way to Muyil. It’s perfect for a sunny day, with a platform where you can jump into the refreshing waters. The entrance fee is only $120 pesos, making it an affordable option. Just 800 meters ahead, you’ll find Laguna Ka’an Lum, one of the hidden gems of Tulum. Both are best visited early in the morning to avoid crowds.
